SMC Pneumatics offers energy saving action plan that will reduce air consumption and hence energy consumption and ultimately make facility energy efficient. SMC`s energy saving action plan focus on eliminating the energy wastage and rationalizing the air consumption. The very first step is to identify the current air consumption in the plant by installing airflow monitors. Air leak is synonymous to air wastage. It could be as high as up to 25 per cent of total air consumption of the shop floor. SMC recommends to always use tube cutters, which ensure the face of the cut perpendicular to its axis. Maintaining good quality air and adding piping distribution to avoid bends wherever possible will further reduce air wastage. Air blowing consumes nearly 50 per cent of total compressed air on shop floor. SMC recommends specially designed air gun nozzles, which can reduce the air consumption in air blowing applications by 75 per cent. Air consumed by the pneumatic cylinder can be reduced drastically without affecting the performance of the system. SMC recommends special designed combination of flow valve and pressure valve, which when mounted on cylinder ports moves the cylinder at nearly half the pressure in return stroke resulting in 35 per cent reduction of air consumption. SMC has developed an energy saving software, which can be utilized to select the pneumatic component, which will consume right quantity of air, give optimum output and prevent over sizing in system designing.
