Treatment of low purity filtrate by "settling" process and high purity mixed juice in two separate and independent streams offers following advantages: clarified filtrate regularly taken directly to evaporator, hence no recirculation; no special proprietary process chemicals; clarified filtrate juice with 3-4 units purity rise; increase in the existing clarification house capacity by 20-25%; improvement in performance and capacity of vacuum filter; reduction in colour imparting degradation products; reduction in CaO content; improvement in boiling house recovery; reduced risk of microbial sucrose inversion in the main juice clarifier; and less risk of reducing sugar destruction.
